Harondor: A Campaign

“a debatable and desert land”.

Map of Southern Gondor above by Sampsa Rydman.

Harondor or South Gondor lies between the Rivers Anduin and Harnen, South of Pelargir.  It is a land that was once conquered by the Kings of Gondor but is now since the Fall of Umbar lost to the Southrons and the Wilderness itself.   Once a land of sheep farms and rich in resources such as iron mines it has fallen into ruin in these dark times.  Still a few brave settlers from Gondor have recently moved into the Northern parts of the region supported by garrisons of Gondorian soldiers.  Since the defeat of the Necromancer in the Mirkwood peace had seemed to come for a time to the land of Gondor.

Orodreth, The Prince of Ithilien has learnt of a host moving North along the Harad road and has marched South to meet this foe before it can reach Pelargir or threaten Ithilien.  However little does he know that through information gained via spies, traitors and dark spells another host from Mordor has been alerted to his plans.  This force led by the Black Numenorean, Malvegil, The Marshall of Umbar has joined forces with the Haradrim as they crossed the Harnen and together they are ready to give battle to their hated enemy of old.

The Battles will be fought using the To the Strongest Rules.

You can read the AAR for the First Battle of Harondor here.

The Second Battle will be fought in the now deserted but once richer lands of South Gondor or Harondor proper.  Here a proud settlement once graced a river crossing as the Harad Road (built by Gondor engineers in better days) carried trade and goods North and South betwixt Pelargir and Umbar and the surrounding territories.  In those days the Kings of Gondor claimed tribute from all the Men of the South and held vast estates in Harondor itself.  Now the river is silted badly and is fordable at certain points whilst proud statues lie toppled amidst lost gardens.  A forgotten building stands in ruin yet the bridge built for the eternal glory of Gondor still stands.

Here the Prince of Ithilen has reformed his armies and gathered to defend the crossing against his enemies.  Both armies are stronger, having gained reinforcements yet the Gondorians have lost some valuable infantry and been forced to reorganise the Knights now under the direct command of the Prince himself.   The archers have moved into separate Bowmen from the shieldwall units also rather than deep units as in the first battle. The Marshall of Umbar can see victory ahead if he can once more defeat the Gondorians allowing him to bring his Army closer to Pelargir where he intends to lay siege to the City walls.  The Prince knows that if he cannot hold the Marshall back here then the enemy will be able to attack, burn and pillage the gentle, green and fertile lands of Southern Gondor surrounding Pelargir.

You can read the AAR for the second battle here.
