Of Orcs and Goblins
The heroes tracked the orcs to the lair, a huge dwarf made underground chamber which was slowly returning back to the earth. As it’s ceilings collapsed and stalactites began to form over time the cavern begins to become lost. Led by Lord Ryewood the warriors decided to eschew the secret entrance and enter quietly by the main gate. As they crouched in the dark ready to attack in surprise Whisper the shield warrior lost his balance and tipped over a huge crate of old bottles and metalware. This caused all the monsters to raise the alarm, closing in on our heroes and reinforcements rushed from all sides.
Lord Ryewood closed with the enemy stroking down the goblins but taking a deep wound in combat against the orc brute. Crusher the dwarven mage guard rushed to close with the goblin border to the right and also took a slight wound in combat. Bowstring the archer moved up and assisted Crusher. The Mage created a defensive shield as the goblin archers closed but Jeff soon cleared them and forced one to drop his bow. This proved fortuitous as Bowstring snapped his bowstring and had to retrieve said now leaving crusher to fend for himself against the remaining horde. Tripper the mage set off a bear trap, triggered an anti magic curse and stepped on a snake as he staggered forward hoping to get some treasure.
Whisper took on an Orc Brute as Jeff covered him with arrow support from the shadows and found a handy potion of vigour. Lord Ryewood narrowly escaped death thanks to his armour finally defeating the Orc Brute and moved to the left of the entrance clearing two hordes of goblins with Whispers help. In the centre Crusher took another wound and so steeped back to grab a shield only to be attacked from behind by a nature spirit! Fortunately he survived and held his ground while Bowstring cleared the remaining Orcs with the help of Tripper the Mage’s Magic darts. Seeing the fight going badly the remaining two Brutes fled the field whilst our heroes secured the remaining loot.
Returning back to town having cleared the den of goblinkin brigands they were richly rewarded and spent some time recovering and resupplying as shown above.
It was really good to play sellwords at last. The card driven autonomous system worked really well. Some really fun moments and surprising outcomes.
No games again on Saturday so even more painting time.
Dol Guldur Nazgul 1-6.
Paint black undercoat. Then highlight with grey then apply chainmail to metal. Nuln oil wash. Highlight with chainmail. Usual fun with forgeworld assembly but at least no hands attaching to flat ends of arms trouble this time and some opportunity to drill and in for example the arms.

Percy and Hilda from Lake Town.
Undercoat black. Various browns for Hilda, highlighted with desert yellow added to brown. Devlan Mud. Scab red hat. For Percy black undercoat. Dark grey base for coat. Fur highlighted with brown and bleached bone mixes. Devlan Mud.

Thranduil, King of the Greenwood
Black undercoat, dark green base and dark blue base. Then storm or wolves ble grey to highlight the cloak and dark angels green for the tunic. Nuln oil to the tunic. Blue wash for the cloak. Thrakka green to the tunic after more dark gren. Hair white or bleached bone and then sepia wash. Crown is brown with sepia wash. I chose to go with my blue and green theme for the elves rather than the black. This is mainly because I have a vampiric black themed warrior Thranduil already and wanted something different I can use in my elven army. Maybe this is Thranduil from a lighter time before or after the encroachments of the Mirkwood.

Radagast, chariot
Putting this finecast model together without any instructions was as fun as expected. However it does not look too bad and has been undercoated black.

The latest played games are as follows. Mike Phil Alex Darryl and bruce played doctor who. Quite a challenging game with dice and random monsters. The team seemed to be winning with Mike in the lead until Phil had a run of bad results so tried to win an easy fight on earth thus losing out because of yet another time locked challenge. This brought on the third Dalek to earth and it was all over for everyone!
Phil. Darryl and Andy played Conan. Monolith Conan’s skirmish board game in Khitai. We continued from where the heroes left off over a year ago. This time Conan and the heroes raced up the tower closely followed by the raging inferno they had created in the basement. Conan and the evasive thief climbed up the tower to confront the wizard whilst the swordsman fought his way upstairs and kept the guards distracted. With one mighty attack Andy’s Conan beheaded the wizard and his guard thus securing a route to victory. The ever evasive thief grabbed the trophy and raced passed the blocking guardsmen then leapt from the battlements into the pond below. This secured a victory for the players. Alas time ran out for the swordsman as the raging inferno raced up the tower but Conan was able to slay the blocking guard then race up the tower and throw himself off the ramparts just as the tower burst entirely aflame and began to collapse. Very cinematic and lots of fun.
Assemble. I hate this part because of the weapon hands being so awkward to glue onto the arms. Lots of separate pieces. I find I get superglued but the figures never do. There is no way I can pin and drill the little hands to make them secure for gaming purposes like I would do say for example with a larger figure such as a troll.
I decided to spray base black because of the armour.
The bases took ages because I kept changing my mind as to going grey or earth brown. In the end I started over all the grey and added brown then put army painter dark tone over it. Now it was all grey again. Not too sure how I feel about the larger rocks I used as ballast as opposed to my usual sand, though am happy with the slate pieces. Next went over again dry brushing wet brushing with graveyard earth and then a dry white subtle highlight.
I painted the goblin skin areas with skull white. Then I added a flesh wash reikland flesh shade. Next I added a mix of flesh and yellow and white, then a highlight of light grey.

Subsequently I have added tin bits to the metal, I will add rhinox brown to the leather areas then I will highlight metal with metal and various browns to the leather areas. Mainly bestial Brown, occasionally vermin Brown .

So onto the final stages. Some received a nuln oil wash to the armour. Not all as it seemed to dull the presence of the tin bits. Rust applied to weapons and bleached bone to the bone picks. Orange to the eyes then gryphons sepia wash to eyes and boils. Some autumn grass added to the bases. This was to give the effect of goblins descending the scree slopes to join the battle of the five armies.

Spray undercoat white. Add dwarf flesh. Orange for the coat colour. The base one solar orange. Aedeptus grey trousers. Then bleached bone for the bags colours and cuffs. Then various browns for the leather. Then the hair and hats rhinos hide. Armour in black. Then brown army painter strong tone wash. Next bring out highlights with blazing orange and brown where required. Finish off faces, hands with dwarf flesh. Correct mistakes.
Ensign gets red instead of orange and orange sash and feathers. Chain mail armour then nuln oil wash. Then highlights with original.
Testors dullcote applied. Too many incidents with frosting with other spray varnishes to want to use any other.
Fix to base and fit pikes. Mix brown and Windsor and newton base gel and apply to base. I decided to go for a 60×60 pike block base with ensign leading push of pike pistol at the ready.

Finally graveyard earth drybrush then autumn flock added to base.
