The final scenario in Ghost Stone for Rangers of Shadowdeep. Due to previous successes they were aided by three soldiers and the first event card would wait until turn 4. The distraction had proved useful. Link and Gwalchmai led the group tasked with guiding the sorcerer to the stone in order to destroy it with her powerful magic. They also had the scrolls and the stone ring from previous scenarios which they gave to the sorcerer tasked with destroying the stone.
The Ghost Stone. A portal through which the evil cultists are summoning spectres to ravage the armies of the kingdom. Dark Tom had opened the battle by casting a fireball at the cultist leader and his group but they mostly dodged out of the way . Link and Birdo take on the Cultist Leader and the werewolf supported by spectres and cultists! Gwalchmai and Steel blaze took out the spectral horse rider in one round. Link shouted over that the werewolves were nigh unkillable due to regeneration. Birdo took it out with a critical ! Birdo is beset by cultists and spectres . Link took heavy damage from the cultist leader only surviving through a potion and a healing spell from Emilia.
Birdo is taking damage fast .
The cart mounted arbelest is dealing heavy damage whilst Recruit Bobby is sniping back with his bow. The sorcerer is keeping under cover out of sight until Gwalchmai can clear the way . His magic sword is vital against these spectres. The battlefield Steel blaze charges the gnoll archers but is knocked out . Dark Tom has cast Transpose on Link who is now in place of the gnoll firing the arbelest . A lightning flash and the ghost stone stands out. The Sorcerer runs across the battlefield now that the arbelest has been dealt with and the way is clear . She finds a magic sword wrapped in leather and secures it for later . Gwalchmai clears the archers allowing Link to use the arbelest. He uses it to shoot the hapless arbelest firing gnoll with his own bolt and took him out in one critical hit ! Birdo is taken out by the spectre which proved resistant to none magic weapons. The sorcerer successfully cast her spell using the knowledge from the scrolls, aided by the stone ring, the death of the shaman and the will bonus from Emilia’s strengthen heart spell . The timer is set to one round . A spectral horseman appears through the portal intent on giving chase as the portal begins to surge with power. Lightning flashes. A green mist rises . The portal is set to explode as the sorcerer flees. The stone is pushed over and shatters . Our heroes try to escape but Link is stunned in the blast . Only one guardsman makes it away . Gwalchmai defends Link from the two cultists and the horseman and then they both join the others in escape.
The sword turns out to be a 9 of clubs enchanted sword . Birdo and Steel blaze will recover from their wounds. Emilia found 4 healing potions which are distributed. Birdo uses his armoury skill to unlock all the sword’s potential and link claims it. The sorcerer may join them again if they can be persuaded.
For now however the ghost stone is silenced and the kings armies are able to hold back the evil for some time more .
With their colleagues creating a distraction at the encampment our main heroes have come forward to investigate the Ghost Stone itself .
Link and Gwalchmai approach the site undercover supported by their respective companions.
Previously six soldiers had been rescued in the first scenario so an extra three warriors are available . Two clansmen rangers with two handed spears and a man at arms ranger with a sturdy shield are provided.
This will be a tough fight with gnolls cultists trolls spectres and spectral horsemen sure to be around the stone itself.
This time we are using our low level group, with Blue Wizard and Valdour.
All is quiet in the camp. A boat arrives with supplies steered by two cultists. Gnolls guard the supplies in the camp marked by the torches. The heroes need to set ablaze these targets and steel the boat with the supplies.First turn The crossbowmen shot dead a gnoll fighter guard as the wizard advanced. The rogue donned a disguise and hid by the small tent. Valdour and his team advanced quietly. His axe missed its target completely thus the alarm was not raised.Blue Wizard sets the camp ablaze with his twinned fireball. One guard is killed outright whilst another escapes unharmed only to be smashed into the flames by the charging bear. Valdour and Clansman are unable to strike down their foe with Valdour suffering 9 hit points damage. The alarm is clearly raised as two supplies are in flames from the fireball. The crossbowman finds a prayer book. A gnoll charges blue wizard only to be met by a critical magical bolt and is defeated. Crossbowman finally sets ablaze a third supply set and Valdour and Clansman defeat their opponent. Finding a flask of oil. They will then set ablaze the supplies nearby and advance slowly towards the boat. Cultists an Ogre and a Troll have arrived. Only the cultists are near enough and move towards blue wizard. The Rogue tries to move towards the final supplies in the encampment wearing her disguise but somehow fails and is spotted. Only the timely intervention of the bear saves her. Eventually the cultist leader will knock out the bear but is in turn slain by the enraged clansman. The crossbowman tries to shoot at the cultists from the river bank but misses so they climb up the steep bank and rush towards blue wizard. Now the rogue has escaped her opponent and jumped into the boat with the crossbowman. Meanwhile the two heroes clear away the cultists whilst poor clansman is surrounded by skeletal knights who avenge the cultist leader. Finally the two heroes jump into the boat steered by the crossbowman and rogue and are able to swiftly make their escape downstream. Unfortunately the supplies are worthless otherwise.
Our heroes have made good their escape and amassed 85 xp . Clansman escaped in the confusion but like crossbowman before him sustained a nasty leg wound and will be speed minus one now. Bear was very badly wounded and will need to miss the next fight if possible.
A really fun scenario and our heroes got away just in time pushed by a horde. It was the sacrifice of bear and clansman that gave them the time they needed.
