Painting Update: Otherworld Fantasy Miniatures   Leave a comment

I wanted some fantasy miniatures to match the Monster Cards from Sellswords and Spellslingers.  So I oredered some from Otherworld Miniatures.  They came quickly with good customer service and I am pleased with them.  Again I have tried to use my new Army Painter style on some of them, so green for the Lizardmen, necrotic flesh for the ghouls and zombies, flesh for the Minotaurs.  Will see how it turns out.  Seems to be working for the lizardmen.  Added a buckler to the Thief for the Player Character upgraded after the last scenario we played.

Painting Update: Conan the Picts   Leave a comment

Painted some Picts from the Conan Boardgame.  Used a new technique.  Sprayed them Barbarian Flesh then blocked in the brown leather, off white teeth and bones, black hair.

Then applied army painter strong wash.  A little dwarf flesh to correct and leather/ wood with vermin/ bestial brown.  Quivers have grey added to make the inside leather side different.  Bases covered in sand, dark brown and graveyard earth brown to the bases.  Then testors dull cote varnish to take off the shine from the wash.

Fall of Rome Pandemic   Leave a comment

We played this.  First time we got wiped out quickly because we did not know the game.  Second time round we worked together to Save the Roman Empire.  Good game.

Campaign: The Mysterious Tower

Scenario:  Traps!

Crypts and Tombs raided within the City and surrounding Isles.  Tales of ancient cemeteries emptied of their corpses in the night.  Ships with cargo from Corsair crewed ships arriving in port to be disembarked and then disappearing in the night before clearing customs or even entering the main city gates.  Dusty Barrels that rattle as dark faced crew carry them off the ships then sail away without waiting to be paid.  What lies behind these mysterious events?

Our Heroes have been investigating and have entered a cave network that begins near the sandy coves to the South of the City.  Hired by the City Council they set out to enter these dark caverns only to find a secret chamber through a flooded cave leading out to the Sea hidden behind a waterfall.  Signs of habitation are noted including a walkway across an underground river.  It seems the barrels are being unloaded here but where are they being taken?  Who is doing the work and where are they now?

Dramatis Personae

Phil:  Tripper the Wizard and his Assistant, Guard Crusher

Mike: Bowstring the Archer and Whisper the Shield Warrior

Alex: Lord Ryewood the Elven Knight and his Squire Jeff

Darryl:  The Un-named Thief and  The Alchemist

The Dimly lit cavern with the Underground Lake and wooden foot bridge.

Lord Ryewood falls under the massive blows from the Trolls Heavy Club. Nearby the Wizard fights in desperate melee.

Bowstring and Whisper clear the way for the Alchemist. He prepares his flaming oil ready to hurl it across the Lake.

Our Heroes cross the battlefield heading towards the secret door fighting their way through hordes of Orcs and Orc Brutes .  Lord Ryewood has recovered somewhat and Crusher has been healed by Tripper having been knocked down by an Orc Brute earlier.  Tripper had lost his magical energies so could only do this through the use of Blood Magic.

This was a tough scenario for the team.  Possibly caused by the initial deployment with the party split and the monsters too close, especially the Troll.

Nevertheless they picked up some useful treasure and have readied themselves at the Sewer located Underground Tavern before pushing on to the Tower.

Gloomhaven   Leave a comment

Phil, Mike, Alex and Darryl played Gloomhaven.  Another great game.  We took on Drake’s Nest at level 2 (normal).  Phil had a new Beast Master character.  It was tough after the third room when lots of nulls and misses and problems with doors, stuns, poisons and movement all conspired to hit us hard.  The third room was dealt with/ held at bay by the beast whilst the rapidly fading heroes took on the last room.  Fortunately the Tinkerer had kept some good cards back and still had enough life with the help of Mike to take out the final room and grab the treasure.  So a very narrow victory with both Darryl Phil and Mike either exhausted or on their final rest!  Well done team.

Painting update   Leave a comment

Have completed Prince Imrahil of Dol amroth and Duinhir of the Blackroot Vale to add to my Fiefdom force.  I used layering rather than dry brush for the highlights.

I do not see a Ranger in Blue (in fact everyone would see him) so went with my usual greens.

Also did 3 Dead Marsh spectres and 3 orc trackers.  For the latter I painted the bases grey to theme with my ashen wasteland based Mordor Orcs.

Finally I painted a batch of my Mantic Games Dungeon furniture up.  I added verdigris and rust effects to go with the dank dungeon theme.

To the Strongest Fantasy Lord of the Rings   3 comments

Planning my To the Strongest Battle.  The forces of Umbar are advancing towards Pelargir having joined up with the Haradrim and Southrons.  Joining them is an advanced force from Mordor.  Ranged against them is a force from Dol Amroth and the Fiefdoms.

I have created some army lists ideas people are welcome to adapt.
