Lord of the Rings Defence of the North   2 comments

Due to a storm and flooding Bruce could not make it so Link stepped in to fight for the Good side.

First scenario. Death of King Brand.

Dain had to save Brand before his loyal knights could be defeated and the King slain.

The Easterlings used a heroic move to close with Rutabi and a drake as Dain advanced surrounded by a Shieldwall. Brogrir moved forward and cast Tremor towards the hill knocking over both Brand and Rutabi! Oops.

Easterlings try to hold up the Dwarven Phalanx by sending on shield man back but he gets surrounded and slaughtered. Then Dain calls a free Heroic combat advance with all those in the fight and actually gets to move more quickly into the fight on the hill!

Rutabi and Dain duel as the loyal Knights of Dale begin to fall. The Dwarves carve a way through to Brand!

Brogrir Strengthens Rutabi who then loses the fight! brand has withdrawn to safety on the right flank shielded by the Dwarves.

Brand has rushed forward back into the fight. Just one loyal Knight remains. With a mighty blow of his Master Forged Red Axe Dain defeats Rutabi dealing two final wounds! Brand has survived the scenario and thus good claims Victory. In the next scenario therefore the target number will be reduced to 30.

The Siege of Erebor.

In this scenario, With Brand and Dain lying dead on the field of battle below Bard and Thorin must stem the tide of Easterlings flooding onto the battlements of the Dwarven Citadel of Erebor. Good needs to kill 30 models in the time remaining but should either Prince/ King die then the best result for Good would be a draw.

The Easterlings ready to scale the ladders. The fall from the battlements being deadly. The advance would be lead by a recovered Rutabi, a Dragon Knight, a Captain and spearheaded by Dragon Cultists. The red bases denotes Black Dragon warriors with higher Fight skill. The remaining Warriors would be automatically replaced should they be slain.

The Easterlings called heroic moves across the entire front burning 3 might points. Good allowed them to advance unopposed and scale the ladders onto the battlements. This meant that the tightly packed Easterlings would often be trapped should they lose a fight.

The Dwarves and Thorin held the left flank. Bard and the men of Dale the right.

Rutabi and the Black Dragon Banner pushed through the centre. This would allow Rutabi to often use Master of Battle being in range of both Good leaders. However he failed almost every time!

Thorin and the Dwarves with Strength 4 soon pushed forward. However at one point Thorin encountered the Easterling Captain (blue base) and was surrounded as reinforcements arrived. He soon lost all his Fate and was down to one last 1 wound.

Rutabi found himself stuck fighting a lowly dwarf crossbowman and therefore unable to further influence the battle against either Thorin or Bard.

.

Thorin has survived and cleared away all the reinforcements. He has held back the Captain too, both are down to their last wound.

Also down to his last wound Bard has pushed heroically forward right up to the battlements edge. Killing the bearer he has thrown the Black Dragon banner over the side into the field below. This was a calculated risk as the next turn he would likely be surrounded. However the remaining defenders to his right now only needed two more kills to claim victory. This they achieved. The Easterling advance had failed and Good claimed Victory. Well done Link!
