Midgard heroic battles Samurai   Leave a comment

Link and me played a Sengoku Jidai battle using the Midgard rules. Capturing the spirit of the battle of the frozen river centuries earlier our two forces met across the frozen main outside Kyoto. Scenario two of the rules was used with Link defending two crossings across the icy waters. The river being otherwise impassable

The Kato clan are holding the river crossings.
The battlefield across the snowy ground . The river in full flow with just two crossing points. The Kato clan on the left ready to defend. The Maede clan on the right prepare to attack.
The Maede clan are ready .
The imperial prince is being held safely in meditation in the temple .
The battle lines.

In the end the warrior monks defending the temple bridge surged forward and pushed the attackers back . Then they were destroyed but samurai from the commanders force crossed and pushed the attackers back again . So defenders held this crossing the whole battle.

At the other crossing the samurai smashed through the Ashigaru and forced back the samurai behind. Eventually the commanders samurai crossed in support .

The battle was 6 turns long and by the end each side held one crossing and neither had been destroyed by reducing to zero reputation. many generals lay dead on the field of battle cut down in thrilling duels.

So who won? We decided victory lay with the attacker who had the most points remaining but no side achieved the scenario victory conditions .
